Gave students an insight into the business and different roles available and underlined that there are opportunities for everyone in the IT sector
Basingstoke, 24 July 2023 – TD SYNNEX (NYSE: SNX) gave over 20 young students from Garth Hill College the opportunity to explore the possibilities of a career in the technology industry by hosting a Business Insights Day at its Business Solutions Centre (BSC) in Bracknell. The event was organised in partnership with local non-profit organisation, Learning to Work.
The objective of the day was to give the Year 10 students (aged 14-15) an insight into TD SYNNEX’s business, the role it plays within the wider IT industry, and its culture and values. It also provided them with an understanding of the rich variety of different roles and career paths that are available to them at the company and the IT sector. It was also an opportunity for TD SYNNEX to hear from future potential employees about what ‘a great place to work’ means to them.
TD SYNNEX is active in a broad range of technology areas, including cloud solutions, cybersecurity, IT infrastructure, and professional and technical services. It works with many leading global vendors and serves the needs of thousands of reseller partners across the UK and Ireland. It can provide career paths in sales and marketing, business development, and technical roles, in finance, human resources, legal, warehousing and distribution, and management.
Simon Bennett, director enterprise software and cloud, UK, TD SYNNEX, said it was a really valuable exercise for all parties. “It was a really fantastic day and a unique learning experience, both for the Garth Hill students and our own team. It was genuinely thrilling and inspiring to see the energy and enthusiasm of these young people, and equally fulfilling to see and hear our co-workers sharing their experiences and positivity with them.”
TD SYNNEX decided to host the Business Insights Day as a way of encouraging students to consider a career in the technology industry and demonstrate that the sector is open to everyone “We wanted to inspire young people to look at IT as a potential career path. To show them how unassuming and inclusive we are in our approach, and to emphasise that every role in our organisation is available to everyone, regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, or ethnicity, culture or background, and whether or not they have a visible or non-visible disability or neurodiversity.”
The day consisted of a series of presentations and discussions led by different co-workers from all over TD SYNNEX UK. This was followed by a workshop in which the students presented their ideas and thoughts on what makes a great workplace and working environment to TD SYNNEX. The presentations and discussions were held in the BSC, a hi-tech facility equipped with the latest technologies which is used for customer demonstrations and meetings, proof-of-concept testing, and training. Students were also given a tour of the building and an opportunity to talk to different co-workers about their roles.
TD SYNNEX provides a number of ways for young people to apply for vacancies and gain experience. It runs a successful apprenticeship scheme – which was ranked sixth in the Rate My Apprenticeship poll last year – and internship programme, as well as a regular Sales Academy course.
Learning to Work is a non-profit charity that works with local colleges to give students insights into the world of work. It has been working with Garth Hill College on a programme of activities to give Year 10 (aged 14-15) students experience of different workplace environments and inspire their future career plans.
Situated around one mile away from TD SYNNEX’s offices in the town, Garth Hill College is a modern secondary school and sixth form college serving the community of Bracknell and surrounding areas.
