Tech Data starts build-up to Black Friday early

By Simon Meredith | 31st August 2016

Basingstoke, 31 August 2016 – Tech Data is starting the build-up to this year’s Black Friday and Cyber Monday buying spree early, encouraging retailers and webstores to look at vendor offers that are already available and plan their campaigns to kick-off the busy year-end season.

This year will see even more spending on hi-tech gear, with mobile, wearables, gaming, ultra HD, smart home and virtual reality generating the most interest from consumers. Tech Data is already preparing to meet expected higher demand for drop-shipment deliveries and has been planning ahead to ensure stock profiles are at optimum levels. Most vendors have already identified their goals and are finalising details of the offers they plan to make available.

Ross Turner, Head of Consumer Business Development at Tech Data, said: “Vendor deals are locked down and ready to go and we are preparing to take on extra stock to ensure we can meet the expected demand. We had a significant rise in drop-shipment requests last year and we’re expecting that to increase again.”

Even though some vendors have already introduced post-Brexit price increases, Turner expects Black Friday offers to be very attractive. “We could see Windows 10 notebooks, Chromebooks, gaming PCs and laptops at very attractive prices and some great offers on 4K displays and TVs”, he said.

Smart watches and other wearables and smart home products, in particular the new wave of simple home monitoring cameras, are also expected to attract a lot of attention. Virtual reality consoles will also be prevalent with entry-levels systems, such as Samsung’s Gear VR expected to sell well and give a further boost to smartphone sales. Tech Data is also distributing the Oculus Rift, which will be formally launched in the UK next month and is sure to cause a further spike of interest in virtual reality products and accessories.

This year, Black Friday will take place on 25th November with Cyber Monday on 28th November 2016. Tech Data has a dedicated Consumer Electronic and Retail Sales team who are available to assist retailers with planning, marketing, demonstration units, stock management, drop shipment and other services.
